Hi,
This is a really cool video that wonderfully shows the importance of the gut-immune coordinated functions.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the “Spleen System” is known to have deep immune functions and when it is weak and not functioning well (“Spleen Qi Deficiency”), out innate immune system will also suffer which can affect our mood, resistance to infections and more. Remember that up to 70% of our total immune tissue is found in the gut. This really points out how the microflora in our body interacts with our immune system and so having lots of “good” bacteria is essential for proper immune function. This is also how medicinal mushrooms work in the body. Ancient recognition sites in our small intestine (as shown in the video, the “Peyer’s Patches), as well as macrophages interact with pieces of the fungal cell walls when we, for instance, make a reishi dried tea concentrate powder and ingest it daily.
You can read more about the medicinal mushroom-immune system connection in articles on my website, from my book, “Medicinal Mushrooms,” and look for my new book coming out next year, Guide to Medicinal and Visionary Mushrooms.”
Thanks!
CH
